SEMF has emerged from being the small Tasmanian office of a consulting engineer to a substantial engineering consulting firm with a national presence.
We have our origins in 1982 when Lincoln Scott Australia's Tasmanian office was bought out by Robert Betts (now Director and Chairman, SEMF Pty Ltd) and renamed EMF Consultants.
At that time, the company was an office of approximately six people, focused primarily on providing electrical, mechanical and fire design and engineering services to the building services sector.
Over the next 12 years, EMF Consultants increased its size and penetration into other market sectors, to include industrial and environmental sciences.
In 1989, it merged with Stephenson Maunsell & Partners - a firm of civil/structural engineers and project managers - to become Stephenson EMF Consultants, with the name gradually being abbreviated to SEMF.
This name was formalized in 1997 when the company became SEMF Holdings. However, the acronym was changed to better reflect the organisation's key activities - Scientists, Engineers, Managers and Facilitators.
In 2002, SEMF further expanded by merging with a Sydney based company, SPECS, a firm of building services engineers established in 1987.
In our most recent merger in 2004, we merged with a Melbourne based company called Austek Engineering - a firm of electrical and mechanical engineers operating in the industrial sector.
SEMF - Consulting Engineers of Today!
The company is now known as SEMF Pty Ltd and provides management, design and consulting services in all engineering, technical and environmental science disciplines to a broad range of industries throughout Australia.
